The Japan Centre offers you the chance to immerse yourself in the world of Japan. Take a stroll down this alley and you'll discover a range of exhibitors specialising in arts and techniques straight from Japan.

This space is dedicated to 14 Japanese designers ready to share their Asian knowledge and expertise with you. Let yourself be surprised and open up to an escapade around Asian culture.

Junko Jacgorno at the Japan section of Créations & Savoir-faire 2024

SARIGAMI

Sarah Maarek, known as Sarigami, is a talented designer who specialises in transforming paper into delicate works of art. Since 2011 she's been designing handmade Japanese lampshades, lightweight origami jewellery and refined washi paper decorations. Her workshop is not just a place to create, but also an exhibition space, a place to sell Japanese papers, and an educational workshop where she shares her know-how, offering courses in making paper lamps and jewellery.

TCHABA

Kaoru Diop, a Franco-Japanese designer, drew her inspiration from her childhood and the craft traditions passed on by her grandmother, learning to sew and make dolls at an early age. Today, she takes this heritage and turns it into objects made from Japanese fabric, such as traditional dolls and tsurushi-bina, delicate mobiles that bring good luck and are often given as gifts on the occasion of a birth.

She also shares her expertise through creative workshops, enabling members of the public to discover the techniques involved in making cloth dolls.

DRUM HOUSE

The MAISON TAMBOUR, founded by designer and artist Etsuko HARADA, has inherited an ancestral and family know-how in the art of knitting. It offers small series and one-off garment creations, then, thanks to its expertise and innovations in crochet and knitting techniques, jewellery and decorative accessories, made by itself in its two workshops, a boutique-workshop (11th arrondissement) and a laboratory-workshop (3rd arrondissement), in Paris.

SACRAYA

Sacraya is a brand founded in 2013 by a Japanese designer. She designs accessories using magnificent Japanese fabrics, carefully selected in Japan. Each piece is unique or produced in small series.

MIMOU PARIS

Ayumi Okazaki has always had a passion for hand-crafted jewellery, creating unique pieces in seed beads and semi-precious stones in a blend of European and Japanese styles. She mainly uses Japanese "MIYUKI" and "TOHO" pearls, renowned for their quality.

HARU'S HANDMADE

She loves creating unique works of art in Mizuhiki, a traditional Japanese art form based on string knotting. Mari-tsukai@ certified after two years of practice, she now lives in Dublin, where Celtic knots and Irish nature are her inspiration. She shares her passion through videos, inviting everyone to discover the infinite possibilities of Mizuhiki.

A BUCOLIC AFTERNOON

"Un après-midi bucolique" was born of a long friendship and a unique creative partnership. Pauline brings a touch of inspired creativity, enriched by her experience, while Pierrick, with his background in architecture, designs the space and harmonises the details.

Since 2011, they have been combining their talents to create unique events, taking care of every detail, from the design of the invitations to the souvenirs offered to the guests.

Inspired by the spirit of their grandmothers' attic, a mysterious place overflowing with treasures, their world is a veritable "cabinet of curiosities", shaped by their tastes and desires of the moment.

YUE AND YUKO

"Yué and Yuko" Origami and crystal bead jewellery. We are two sisters who make handmade costume jewellery in France and Japan. We combine a modern technique, glue-deco, with the traditional technique of origami.

"Yué et Yuko" continues to seek ideas for future collaborations between traditional skills and modern craftsmanship.

THE SECRET OF FLOWERS

A designer of Japanese-inspired hair accessories and small leather goods, Mademoiselle Cheng offers handcrafted pieces made in France. Trained in object design and with a diploma in textile arts and crafts from Duperré, she was deeply inspired by her travels in Japan, where culture, nature and respect for tradition nurtured her creativity. Her creations, including Tsumami Kanzashis, Kusudama necklaces and Kinchaku purses, combine origami and folding with the beauty of nature.

MONO JAPANESE ART

MONO Japanese Art, founded by Takako Matsuzaki, acts as a bridge between traditional and contemporary Japanese crafts. More than just a gallery, MONO Japanese Art is a place of cultural transmission, where the founder regularly travels to Japan to meet craftspeople.

True agents of art, they select works steeped in history to enrich our everyday lives. Each piece is carefully selected for its ability to uplift the spirit and tell a unique story.

MEG SERIGRAPHY

Megumi creates her own designs and, using the screen-printing technique, prints them on a variety of materials: paper, leather pouches, bags, clothes...

Her poetic, sensitive world is peopled by imaginary animals and plants that come to life through screen printing.

As well as these marvellous designers, the Japan Centre also has a demonstration area for you to discover! 4 designers will be present on the stand, giving you the chance to watch them take it in turns to give demonstrations. You'll be able to fall in love with their magnificent creations and take them home with you!

  • M.A.M.I.C.O.U.D. Welcome to the world of Japanese Yokai! Designed with passion by Japanese soft toy designer Mamiko, these kits invite you to dream in a world of creativity and good humour. Find out more
  • ATELIER POUPON. Temari is a traditional Japanese art that involves making a ball filled with rice husks, then decorated with embroidery using threads dyed from plants. Find out more
  • RYOKO SHINOHARA. Ryoko prints greetings cards by hand using the "washi-kohanga" technique, in which the artist applies oil paint by running it through Japanese paper with fine-point holes. Find out more
  • SHIKEKO. Elsa Bonhomme is an artist and graphic designer whose unique world has been shaped by her travels, particularly to Japan, a true source of inspiration. Under the graphic identity Shikeko, she poetically reinvents traditional Kokeshi dolls. Made from beech wood, hand-painted and then given a patina, each doll is a unique piece, combining delicacy and modernity. Find out more
