Add a personalised touch to all your clothes

Hardware

  • A white or coloured t-shirt
  • An embroidery drum
  • 3 moulded wires in different colours
  • Water-soluble paper
  • The motif to be reproduced

Points used

  • Back stitch: prick the needle from the wrong side to the right side of the fabric, at the beginning of the line and make a small stitch forward. Bring the needle back to the right side of the fabric with a new forward stitch, then prick the needle through the same hole as the end of the previous stitch. Then continue as follows: a stitch forward to bring the needle towards the right side of the fabric, then insert the needle into the end of the previous stitch, etc...
  • Spider stitch: stitch the needle from the wrong side to the right side of the fabric, at the top of one of the branches of the star, then stitch in the centre of the star. Embroider all the branches in this way. Pull the needle out between two branches, as close to the centre as possible; then weave in the round, passing successively over and under each branch until the whole flower is embroidered. Stitch the needle from the right side to the wrong side of the fabric and tie a knot at the back.
Materials for DIY t-shirt embroidery tutorial: drums, thread, needle and design

Explanations:

  • Start by decalcifying the pattern, on water-soluble paper.
  • Cut all around and stick it to the spot on the t-shirt you want to embroider then install the embroidery hoop. Make sure you don't pull the t-shirt taut as this could cause your embroidery to shrink when you remove the embroidery drum.

DIY t-shirt embroidery love
  • Using colour 1, cut about 40cm of thread and split it into 3 strands. Backstitch the word "LOVE".
  • Take colour 2 and do the same for the leaves
  • For the 3 roses in colour 3, take approximately 30cm of thread and embroider it as is, with the 6 strands in spider stitch.
  • Finally, remove the embroidery drum and run the T-shirt under water to remove the water-soluble paper.
