Pimped baubles!

Tired of your classic Christmas baubles? Here are two simple ways to customise them and give them a new lease of life:
1. Glitter balls!
- Fill one bowl with white glue and another with glitter.
- Hold your bauble by the hook, dip it halfway into the white glue, then dip it into the bowl of glitter.
- Let it dry by hanging it up and shaking it out of the window to remove the excess glitter before hanging it on the tree.
- Opt for bright glitter colours that contrast with your original baubles. For example: pink glitter on a gold ball, red glitter on a green ball...
2. Faceted balls!
- You can find mini self-adhesive mirror mosaics in hobby shops.
- Have fun covering your Christmas baubles with these minimirrors to turn them into faceted baubles that will reflect the tree's string lights, making it shine with a thousand lights!
- If covering your balls entirely with mirrors seems a bit tedious, you can also create a simple strip a few mirrors wide in the centre of the ball. The reflection game will also work.

Mistletoe garland revisited
- Draw a stylised mistletoe branch design. Using a tracing paper, repeat this pattern in a circle around a circle 1cm in diameter.
- Cut out the mistletoe motifs in the round from gold foil. Cut them out as many times as there are bulbs in your light garland.
- Close each circle of mistletoe branches around each bulb. Hold it in place with a small piece of double-sided tape.
- Warning: make sure you use a garland with LED bulbs that don't heat up when they come into contact with the paper.
Traditional straw decorations

Minimalist tree
- Gather pretty, leafless tree branches in the forest.
- Domed in white or silver.
- Place them in a bouquet in a tall vase, a brocade or an umbrella stand, for example. Hang Christmas ornaments and fairy lights.

Decorations in self-hardening paste
Decorations made from self-hardening clay are a great way to create personalised ornaments for your DIY Christmas tree or to decorate your home. This malleable material can be used to make all sorts of shapes that harden without baking, offering an alternative to store-bought decorations. A perfect handmade Christmas decoration that's easy to create.
Ideas for shapes :
- Stars, snowflakes and Christmas trees
- Impressions of winter leaves or dried flowers for a natural effect
- Flat balls with printed lace or engraved motifs
Creation & Savoir-faire advice: Use natural colours (off-white, beige) and add touches of gold with paint for a refined, minimalist effect.

Recycled paper garlands
This year, the trend is towards recovery and reuse. Why not make your own garlands from recycled paper? Whether you use newsprint, magazines or even packaging, you can create garlands that are elegant, eco-friendly and modern. A fun and responsible DIY Christmas child.
Ideas for garlands :
- Paper pom-poms: fold and cut paper circles, place one on top of the other and secure with thread to create lightweight pom-poms for hanging.
- Cut-out garlands: cut out shapes (stars, reindeer, snowflakes) from coloured paper and bind them together with jute or cotton thread.
Driftwood Christmas decorations
Driftwood, chic and natural, is one of the big trends this year. They're easy to find and make superb decorative elements for a Scandinavian or bohemian Christmas. The perfect style for a DIY wooden Christmas decoration!
DIY ideas using driftwood :
- Minimalist Christmas tree: assemble pieces of driftwood in the shape of a Christmas tree, secure them with string and decorate with discreet baubles.
- Wall hangings: hang pieces of driftwood in a line on a rope to create a simple wall decoration, decorated with fir branches and Christmas baubles.

Homemade natural scented candles
Making your own candles is a great way to create a warm atmosphere at Christmas, while customising the scents. Candles with essential oils and citrus fruits are on trend, adding a touch of fragrance that evokes winter. The perfect handmade gift.
Ingredients for your DIY candles :
- Essential oils: cinnamon, orange, fir, hot spices
- Natural decorations: dried orange slices, cinnamon sticks, aniseed stars to add around the pot.
DIY macramé Christmas tree
Macramé is making a big comeback in interior decoration, and for Christmas it's coming in the shape of a Christmas tree! This project is both fashionable and practical for those who don't have room for a large tree. The macramé tree adds an elegant, bohemian touch to your festive decor. It becomes an original DIY outdoor Christmas decoration if it's sheltered!
Materials required :
- Natural cotton rope
- Wooden or metal ring
- Lighting garland to illuminate it

The Advent calendar
Best off among Christmas creations, the Advent calendar is to be made during November. The basic principle is simple: create 24 little containers that will hold 24 little presents to keep you going throughout December until the 25th.
For containers, you'll find lots of ideas on the Internet:
- Simple kraft bags with pretty labels
- Paper art houses with numbers
- A large panel with 24 squares
- 24 pretty boxes to put on the mantelpiece
As for the contents, you can fill each box with sweets, small toys, pretty pictures and, of course, chocolates! If the recipient of the Advent calendar is a fan of DIY and creative hobbies, give them a gift of creative materials each day: fabric coupon, thimble, ribbon, pompom, sticker, beads, scissors, etc.
A DIY Christmas idea for children, to make as a family.

You don't need to spend a fortune to make pretty Christmas decorations for your tree! Kraft paper, pretty ribbons, a few sequins, branches, pine cones, acorns, oranges and clementines... are all you need to create pretty subjects to hang from branches.
